Kuelap is one of the largest ancient stone structures in the New World. It is located about 3000 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Andes in northern Peru. Kuelap is believed to have been a fortified citadel built of chachapoyas. They were also known as “cloud wars” and were a tribe that inhabited these lands before the Incas. According to archeological finds, the fortress was built around the 6th century AD. and was used until about the 16th century.
