IN THE KINGDOM "HORN OF PLENTY"

Materials and techniques used: watercolors on paper, photography, digital collage

I call the “portraits” of fruits and vegetables in my work THE HORN OF PLENTY. Well, what else should I call the fruit and vegetable abundance, the sum of the harvest, the wealth of humanity? Both literally and figuratively, the word fruit is used for wealth, for great achievements of labor, for a good result. I have a hard time grasping the concept of still life for the picturesque piles of products of trees and earth.

I combine the watercolor “portraits” of fruits with my photographic portraits. So they become my organic portraits. I am glad that the societies of apples, of grapes, of figs, of peaches and apricots admit me to their sunny dominions, and showered with grape-clusters of diamonds, with bright apple-rubies and emeralds, with juicy and delicious fig amethysts, I feel like a queen in the kingdom of THE HORN OF PLENTY. Thus, our mutual portraits are complete, complete, two-way-representative. Mutual love. Giving and receiving. I in them and they in me. Fullness. Two portraits in one. Convergence. Convergent evolution, evolutionary biology, process of independent development with similar features. Unrelated organisms with similar organs – hair from apples, wreath from figs, halo from grapes, necklaces of peaches, hairpins and brooches of apricots, necklaces of grapes and pears. We live in a similar environment with similar conditions. We adapt to each other. We like each other.
