Pelicans are a genus of large waterfowl with a characteristic long beak and a large fleshy pocket under it, used to catch fish. They generally have pale plumage. They have a fragmented distribution around the world, covering the areas between the tropics and temperate zones. My encounter with these is on the Bayestas Islands in the Pacific Ocean, near the southern coast of Peru.
