Olantaytambo was the residency of the emperor Pachakutikhachi. It is believed that this is the only place in Peru, where in 1536 the Incas repulsed the Spanish army. The words of Olantaytambo have the most religious significance. The temple and the fortress are located above the city, and on the monolithic stones there are still preserved ancient relief paintings. We come across a mass reenactment of the ancient play Olantai. Locals play a big spectacle on the giant terraces of the remains of the fortress.
